I recently defended my thesis to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University. I was a member of the Soft Machines Lab, advised by Carmel Majidi. My thesis concerns the integration of sensing and electronics into soft robotics and wearable systems, exploring how careful integration can expand device capabilities by better leveraging the unique properties of soft and especially tunable materials. I am interested in sensing, medical robotics, soft actuator control, manipulation, and brain computer interfaces.

Previously I held the roles of senior research analyst and programmer in the Auton Lab at Carnegie Mellon University and software engineer at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. My work has touched a variety of domains including medical diagnostics, radionuclide detection, counter human trafficking, and guided munitions.

Personal life

When I’m not in the lab, I like to spend my time … in the lab, looking at robots with the kids:

When I’m neither working nor exploring in the lab, I enjoy cooking (when I have time). Especially pizza and Christmas cookies:

Before we had kids, my wife and I both traveled whenever we could. I will be elated when we can travel again, this time as a whole family!
